Malcom Sargent (1895-1967)
Malcom Sargent (1895-1967) was one of the most versatile and charismatic conductors of his generation.
Equally at home in the great classics or in Gilbert & Sullivan, he was a great choral conductor (Gerontius, Belshazaar's Feast, Elijah, Hiawatha), a fine exponent of Sibelius and Brahms, and an educator whose concerts for young people and long-standing involvement with the Proms both helped to shape the musical perception of several generations.
