Arthur Catterall (1883-1943)
Arthur Catterall (1883-1943) was a distinguished violinist, a concerto soloist, chamber musician and teacher.
From 1912 to 1925, he led the Halle Orchestra and from 1929 to 1936 held the same post with the fledgling BBC Symphony Orchestra.
As well as leading the Catterall String Quartet for many years, he also recorded chamber music with the pianist William Murdoch.
